Welcome to La Porterie

La Porterie is a traditional, tranquil 17th C farm-house
comfortably restored, set in ten acres of grassland at the end of a country lane
in the Normandy bocage countryside. The Manche region has so much to offer, with
the historic towns of Coutances, Granville, Avranches, St Lô, and Bayeux all
within easy reach. The D-Day Landing beaches Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword,
and Battle of Normandy sites and museums are just a short trip.
You can explore the varied coastline of the Cotentin peninsular which sweep from the landing beaches round Cherbourg to
the spectacular bay of Le Mont St Michel, or take a trip over to the Channel
Islands and Les Isles de Chaussey from Granville, St Malo or Barnville Carteret.
There are six golf courses within 45 minutes drive from La Porterie
and the Cotentin has a wealth of gardens of interest amongst which are the 22 gardens within the
Association of Cotentin Côté Jardins and we can help you plan your visit.
There are also opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, bird watching and
all the wonderful produce of the region to sample, alternatively you can just
relax, read, paint - and make plans to return! La Porterie is ideally situated
approximately 75 minutes by car from the ports at Cherbourg, St Malo and
Ouistreham (Caen), alternatively, Le Havre is under two hours. A direct train
line runs from Paris to St Lô.
Guests are welcome to stay for a night or two, or longer and we will do
all we can to make your visit memorable.
We have been working hard over
the last few years to make La Porterie as 'green' as possible and pressing
the button above or below will show how we use constant temperature water
from our borehole to heat our water and keep the house warm very
efficiently. We also use our own wood for our woodburning stoves and the open fire in the
salon and, of course use our own vegetables for the meals: very few 'food miles'!!
Those visitors towing boats, cars or other valuable goods will be pleased to know that there is plenty of safe private free parking.
